Do you wear the white camo or standard camo when in a tree stand? Seems like standard camo would be better.

Depends on how much snow is in the tree or behind you. Most of the time regular camo is fine.

I wear regular, but it’s a lighter colored blend. So, I’m neither the lightest or darkest thing out there.

In the pines I wear regular camo, in hardwoods with snow on the ground I wear snow camo.

Black Carhartt extremes. Limit noise, movement and keep the wind in your face you’ll be just fine. Camo is the single most overrated hunting item.

Followed closely by all the scent cover bs. We’re animals, we can’t be scent free. Use the wind to your advantage

I wear just warm clothes that are dark in my set up.

I disagree, the right camo in the right situation can make all the difference in the world. In fact I get extremely ticked when people come goose hunting with me in a wheat field wearing a white or black hoodie!

I feel colors don’t matter as much for deer, mainly patterns. I also feel that reducing as much scent from my body and clothing as possible, has helped me watch and harvest many deer, downwind, and very close range.
Of all the things I can control, deer movement and wind are 2 things slightly out of my skill set.

If you think camo is overrated, wear advantage while hunting in an aspen grove. I was down wind and they picked me out like I was waving at them. doah

I have watched countless videos etc.through the many years. Two or more will be stalking or traveling through good deer area, they stop and whisper to each other, their hands will be waving right, left, up and around pointing. Deer can spot those hand movements from a long ways in woods or brush no matter how well camouflaged they are. Bow hunting from stands I’ve spotted hunters hand movements first. You will see this in most hunting videos, makes me cringe.

Lots and lots and lots of animals have been killed bow hunting wearing plaid or denim or both. Fred bear would be an example of a fairly accomplished bow hunter and more recently Donnie Vincent never wears anything camouflage. It’s a marketing gimmick. Most look like a big blob at a distance anyway so what’s the difference

That is funny, Fred Bear who hunted back when deer didn’t even know who or what humans were. Wasn’t that hard fool a whitetail back then. I have never heard of your buddy Donnie, but if he doesn’t wear camo when hunting I don’t want to know him.

To say that camo is a marketing gimick is just foolish. You can’t possibly believe that camo doesn’t conceal you more that single color clothing. You’d have to be legally blind if you can’t see that.

Yeah…I’m with the guys for camo being a joke…mostly. Camo may help with movement but that’s about it. Anyone who deer hunts rifle will let you know deer will walk right up to you while covered head-to-toe in blaze…granted you better stay still. Oh-and pink works too! Deer don’t care what color you are wearing, mostly because they can’t tell.

Camo has it’s place. With the right backdrop it’ll break up your movements. This comes in handy while reaching for and pulling back a bow.

Well this seems to be a controversial topic. I am a avid bow hunter and have hunted many species in many different areas. Sure it is said that deer don’t see color and some people say that scent control is a waste because you can’t be completely scent free. I’m sure that everyone at some pint has had a deer come in close when wearing something other that camo. I’m sure that everyone has had deer come in from down wind. Deer have evolved and deer in different areas act different and tolerate different things. You can’t hunt a deer in rural areas the same as deer in the west. And you can’t hunt deer with a bow the same as you do with a gun. I’m sure that someone out there is saying ” well I shot a deer in jeans and a t-shirt that came in down wind, that stuff is all overrated” . I’ve met those people. I tell these people that that’s fine but what you don’t know is what deer you didn’t see because of the same reasons. Anyone who is a true bow hunter and want to harvest quality deer regularly will take every step possible at all times to give yourself the best opportunity on a trophy. You never know when the chance will come so be ready at all times, take every step possible and you won’t have be able to say
” well if I just wore camo’s I could have shot that deer”, or ” if I had just controlled my scent better that moster would have been mine”. Do everything you can and have no regrets.

I don’t archery hunt deer, so I can’t comment on what may or may not be effective hunting them in December. However, if I was, I would want to control every single factor that I had control over. That means using camo, scent control, etc. Leaving items like that out of your favor whether or not you think they matter will only negatively hurt your chances of success.

Excellent point!! Yeah I shot a nice 1.5 year old 6 point wearing jeans, ya but the 160″ 10 point spotted and smelled you from 1/4 mile away and never came close!

Fully agree, take every precaution you can.
