Late ice?

Got a lot of blue gills yesterday. 6.5 feet of water, sight fishing in the weeds. All larger fish released. CPR!
Frog colored gill pill size 12. With a wax worm. Though a horizontal jig with a gulp 1.5 ” minnow got some too.
Had to have the bait horizontal to get the larger gills to bite. But these fish where aggressive. The gills bite like late ice. Nice day to . It was 58 yesterday. I was pretty much only one on the lake. Ice was still in good shape just lots of water on top.
