Late Fall Crank bait pattern

In Fisherman has an interesting artical about a pattern that sets up after the finesse stuff stops working when the water is in the 40s. Bass Brawl outdoors on YT has this guy who fishes deep with cranks that he adds weight to so they suspend. I have fished LMBs in November with very mixed results. Anyone else fish them into November?

We go to SoDak in October every year. One year the water was 48 degrees. We caught quite a few smallies and a walleye or two on DT-10’s. Can cover a bunch of water.

Yes. Its called plucking them out of the wintering homes. I wouldn’t add weights as I wouldn’t target them over 20ft but in the local lakes 15 to 20 ft can be a great area to throw deep diving cranks. I focus on where the weeds are still alive and fish based on that alone.

Me either. That’s why I’ve never been in to lead core. But 12 ft maybe a little deeper weeds can and will be key once it gets cooler. Green weeds equals fish. I have some deeper fatter cranks in pearl white and craw red that can clean up shop once the temp drops. Ill look and figure out what they are, because I don’t remember

I’ve had some decent runs with a 5 and 6 XD in 15-20 ft of water while the weeds are still green. Usually down to about 45 degree water temp. Few and far between but many times they are good quality.

I have great luck in early spring and late fall using crankbaits for bass using crankbaits in the Mississippi. Think wintering areas. LMB and walleyes a lot of time will be in the same areas, almost seeming to school together, very near or even in their wintering areas. They put the feed bag on. Water temp can be in low 40’s and these fish are putting the feed bag on. I have been out a number of times, and fished in the snow. Snow/ice and carpeted bass boat decks are a slippery combination. Around Thanksgiving is usually great. And one fishing at that time has a lot of water to themselves. A lot of other guys are in hunting mode only by then.

I agree. I fish the Mississippi above the dam in Brainerd in the Fall. When the temp drops below 60 cranks are great. When the temps hit the high 40’s I can’t find em.
