It took until the later part of August but we are finally getting some great local fresh corn. The last week has provided the best of the season so far. How was the Midwest corn this summer?

We just had some at the cabin last week and it was some of the best I’ve had. Super juicy, not sure if it is from the wet weather we have been having.
We were at the corn feed in Emily at the Pickled Loon this past Saturday, they had 1400 ears and ran out way-way too early.

Picked some up off the corner in Clear Lake. Best corn I’ve had in years. Looking forward to the State Fair corn feed!

Made up 7 dozen for freezer corn last Sunday. Best I’ve ever seen. I must have eaten 2 lbs of it raw. It was so sweet and juicy.

I planted sweetcorn on May 15th and June 5th. The early stuff turned out small and not real pretty (still taste good). Later stuff is just getting ready now. Picked a few last night just to look and is big and beautiful. It was warm at early planting but turned cold and wet for about a week and a half shortly after, must really affect the new hybrids. Same seeds planted 3 weeks apart ripe within 3 days of each other. Dumb weather. As long as the coons don’t show up I will have corn coming out of my ears. (pun intended) Sixteen rows about 200 feet long most stalks have at least two ears.

It has to be good. I went to get some from a buddy like I do every year and this year the raccoons cleaned him out.
