Report: We went out of Macs and stayed about 5 miles out on top of a gravel hump in 21′. The post earlier about it howling out there Friday afternoon was no lie.

Friday night we managed 7 fish, all between 11pm and 5am the next morning. 5 were on rattle wheels with fatheads, 2 under bobber rods with small shiners being jigged ever so slightly when fish would pass by.

Saturday after landing 2 in the house early morning, we loaded up and went about a mile further out and hole hopped in about 28′ of water. We had minimal luck with 1 fish and 2 misses on iFishPros to show for our efforts.

Saturday night we managed 2 fish on tip ups with small shiners about 40 yards or so out from the shack. We caught a small pout and 3 more walleyes on rattle reels.

Overall the experience was positive through Macs. Roads were great and the house was clean. They were up front and said the bite was tough. The people we talked to on the lake hadn’t caught fish during the day at all, and were only getting 1 or 2 fish a night with some getting skunked. Fatheads brought in the most fish with small shiners too. We did not get a single fish on a sucker. Fish were all 14-22″. One 20″er reminded me of a Pool 4 fish with it’s real heavy build. The 22″ fish was extremely skinny.

As a guy who doesn’t fish Mille Lacs often and hates crowds while fishing, I’m glad my friends talked me into coming up. We will likely do it again next year at some point and hopefully try the early ice bite before a trip to LOTW later on.

We went out of Hunters today…fished from 8 til 4 with one fish to show for it.

We hit a couple spots. Started in about 18’ and then moved to 27’. The wind made it tough to be mobile but we did some hole hopping outside.

We probably only marked 5 fish all day. I fish Mille lacs about once a year…by far the toughest. Can’t remember the last time I’ve been completely skunked.

Still good to be out…..time to chase some pannies and then get on the river!

Hey hey hey, there’s no skinny walleyes in Mille lacs! It’s just they are expending so much energy chasing baitfish and dodging lines…

Glad you got into some fish.

All the fat Mille Lacs walleyes get caught in the nets. The skinny ones slip through. waytogo
