It’s the last chance boy’s and girl’s (unless you going to LOW). So where is everyone going?

We are gonna hit Mille Lacs again, going out of Red Door for the first time. Hope this warm weather and moon phase we can get on some fish.

    Good luck and be safe.

I’ll be headed to my shack out of Appeldoorn’s on Mille Lacs. Took Friday & Monday off. The latter more so for a recovery day! lol. The weather is shaping up for a nice Saturday chasing flags. Friday the winds look a little rough but at least it’ll be 60 degrees warmer than 2 weeks ago. It’ll be more of an end of the year party around my place but we’ll have plenty of lines out hoping for whatever is in the mood to bite. It’s been a pretty good season for us but I’m ready to start shifting gears to some warmer weather & getting some Syrup made!

Sunday we will fish till noon or so, then spend the last few hours getting the house un-banked. It’s been in the same spot for the whole season. The banking is high & hard… Hoping this warmer weather will soften it up a bit, but we’ll see. I usually move it off the break into a bit deeper water after January, but fishing has still been good & it was just too cold to deal with that crap.

The walleye have not been kind to me this year. Think I might head up for burbot.

I’ll be hitting Mille Lacs with a group of guys. We are going out of Macs Twin Bay. During the day we will move around with trucks and cover some water, but stick to the shack later on for a rattle reel or two and some beverages.

If anyone wants to swap plans or ideas, I’d be fair game. We’re not expecting lights out fishing or anything close…but hopefully a few will come topside as a couple of the guys seem confident in their ability to get on fish out there.

Bucky happy to share what has not been working. Lol. We are trying a new flat on the north end, probably target 26-29ft on the edge.

That’s my kind of sharing! After we get back, I’ll likely have a great detailed idea of what doesn’t work.

Our plan is to go out of Macs Twin Bay…and stay in a skid shack out on the gravel a mile and a half or so beyond Hennepin Island. From there, we will likely bust out further during the midday times towards fishy (or not so fishy) spots and focus on staying away from people as much as possible.

Any thoughts on lures? I know there’s a million ways to catch fish and not catch fish. My best luck out there has been on deadsticked fatheads in the past with a tough bite and clear water conditions late in the season, with buckshot spoons and slab raps more to bring fish in than sealing the deal. We will toss out some iFish Pros with shiners and suckers as well during the day.

I’m sitting in one of Mac’s houses right now. An early retirement allows me to go midweek and avoid weekends so this is likely my last hurrah for ice fishing walleye this year.

A few trips this winter all the same. Mostly slow but I always get a few. Much what I expected as it’s well known it’s been a struggle for most other’s as well. (Always a few exceptions)

Last evening I caught 3 walleyes, not much size to them but the thrill was 2 caught on jigging spoons. Been few and far between anything caught like that other than on rattle reels while sleeping at night. So much more fun to mark the fish, feel the thump and bend in the rod.

If anything better happens tonight, I might report back.

Past years suckers definitely seemed to outproduce fatheads…this year, not so much. Walleyes are finicky and light biting. Fatheads seem to be just as effective.

Jigging spoon was a glow orange/chartreuse that did it tipped with minnow head.

Last evening was low pressure overhead and snowing. Today cloudless bright sunshine…very different conditions.

Thats one of the most underrated ideas of all these. What a great idea. Not so much the location but the lake

Signing off from work, hooking up the shack, and following Lindyrig up to Red. Never went on my own there before and looking forward to it. Think I’ll try Hillman’s road.

Thanks to those who posted on my other thread and good luck to all of you!

Mille Lacs @ Mac’s Twin bay. Time to un-bank the house and close her up for the season. Always kind of sad. I use March mostly for equipment change over. Hopefully the Rainy River timing will be favorable this year. If not there is always the Fox and Green Bay.

I work this weekend so I’m done for this walleye season. I was up on LOW Weds and Thurs. Good numbers of active fish, but it was an absolute dink fest!

Anybody having any luck out there? Debating running over tomorrow for the last day or chasing panfish.
