LASIK and working question

I’m having LASIK in less than a month and I need to decide on MonoVision vs. full correction. With full correction of my nearsightedness, I would need reading glasses to work on computer or read paperwork. With MonoVision one eye would remain slightly nearsighted for reading while he other would be fully corrected.

Can those out there who’ve had LASIK comment on your experiences?

    Thanks.

    How old are you?

I coke bottle glasses since the 4th grade. When I turned 20 finally got soft contacts. Wore the contacts until 2007 and had Lasik done on both eyes. Having the Lasik done is ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!

The reason I asked you how old you are is because a very large percentage of people in general, even if they don’t have near sightedness, end up with readers/cheaters. I had my Lasik done when I was 46 and was already in need of readers so…….. with that being said I would go with full correction on both eyes. I now have 20/20 in one eye and 20/25 in the other. I can see better for long distance than I can ever remember. Cheaters are no big deal and are very inexpensive. If you get readers/cheaters find the ones you like and buy at least 10 pairs. I have at least 4 pairs in the house, 3 pairs in my garage & pole shed, at least one pair in every vehicle, 2 pairs in my boat and at least one pair in each one of my brief cases for work. Total cost under $100. Well worth it IMHO!!!

I have not had it done but, the wife has. She had it done in her middle 50’s and had it done both for near/far. It was ok for the first few years, but in a few years she just went to using cheaters. She now has about half dozen pair of glass’s sitting around, one in every vehicle we own and were ever she sits to do some reading. I have two sons and a daughter in-law that has it done and they are going strong with the full correction. Mine you they are all in there 30’s and young. I just wish that I could of got it done. I have a eye condition that say’s that I can not have it done.
Hope it helps a little on what ever you do!!! – – – You will love it-NO GLASS’S

Got lasik several years ago and got the full correction. It was a blessing and a curse. I have never had a problem reading small print prior to the surgery. After the surgery, I could see great at distance but my close vision sucked. I can’t read restaurant menus in dim lighting to save my life. Being a guy, it isn’t like I have a purse to carry my reading glasses around with me. It got to be such a PITA, that I now have gone back to wearing glasses full time to just spare me the frustration.

I’m 39. Close to cheater age.

As a nurse I work with computer screens, paperwork and patients in close proximity to my face.

I am concerned it would be putting cheaters on and off my face 1000 times a day.

    Hence the MonoVision thought.

Do you have to alternate closing one eye at a time to make that work? LOL!!!

Doc tells me your brain learns to use the appropriate eye for the appropriate job (close vs far work).

I should buy stock in a cheater company.
FYI – for ice fishing I use the cheaters with lights, if I didn’t have those I would quit fishing.

The “curse” as superdave suggests is an inevitable to such a large portion of the population usually hitting in the 40’s …. according to my eye doctors.

I hunt western ND and almost all my buddies can not see as well as I can for long distance. This include both guys that do where glasses as well as the ones that don’t. In my opinion the more “fore sure” best results would be the full correction being that more than likely you will need cheaters in the future anyways.

How are your family eyes? Like your parents and siblings? Can be a good indicator for whats in your future.

I’m 57, I got the far/ near, sighted correction done , and love it….my doc asked if I wanted to try some glasses that would replicate what it would be like. I chose not to, and would have it done again. It’s hard to tell the difference unless I close one eye and either try to read, or see distance. I had my dominate eye (used for shooting) done for distance, and my non dominate eye done for reading. Good luck.

Haven’t had Lasik done yet but I ‘m just the opposite of Dennis. I’ve worn contacts for years and tried the mono vision lenses for about a week and never got used to them. I do a lot of driving sometimes at night and could not get good long range vision at all or good close up vision for that matter. Went with full correction lenses and have lots of readers laying around, $1 at Dollar Tree…lol
