Can someone share a food rod & reel set up for fishing scum frogs in weedy and slop cover? I’ve been using the lightest of my musky fishing set ups, which does an ok job, but would like a something a little more geared to my fishing conditions.thanks.

I went to a Daiwa Tatula “XT” this year: 7′-4″ Heavy. $119 but as light as any $200 rod I shopped. As someone whose had 5 wrist surgeries, having a rod that is both light and powerful is really important to me and it’s been great.

Sorry, this won’t help, but I found it funny you are using light musky gear.

For slop I am using an old, heavy cat spinning set up. I also have a cheap stout flathead rod I bought rated for 2 oz+. I am using that for a couple large baits I am chucking at the pond in the hopes of finding a trophy in there, much like musky fishing.

I am holding off on spending money on gear until I purchase a boat.

For the scum frog I also use a MH Predator musky rod. It is really just about the same as a long XH bass rod. It works great for me.

I recommend the Tatula 7’4″. So light! So powerful!

I’m currently using a St. Croix 7’10” Medium Heavy Fast Action Tip rod. Maybe I’ll stick with that. My other option of what I own is a Shimano 7′ Medium Fast Taper Rod. Though both are equipped with Ambassador 6600 C5 reels, so maybe I will just downsize one of the reels and go with it. Thanks for the feedback.

7-4 MH with a fast tip Shimano Clarus with a Daiwa Aird baitcasting reel. 40# Power Pro with a 1-1.5oz bullet weight and usually a texas rigged creature bait or large worm.

Without plugging any brands I would say at least a 7 1/2 foot medium heavy or heavy rod. Fast action. High gear ratio baitcaster with plenty of power, large wide spool for long casts. 65lb braid.

I have a few, but my favorite is the Fenwick Aetos 7’6″ Heavy Xfast with a Curado and 80lb PowerPro.
