Large chip in Skeeter fiberglass boat

    Hi All,

I was waxing the boat today and when I looked underneath my 2007 Skeeter WX 1880 that I bought last year and I noticed a very large chip near the trailer bunk. I have had the boat out twice this year and I know that I did not hit anything. Has anyone seen anything like this before and can it be repaired? I don’t have a hull warranty on the boat, but has anyone had any luck working with Skeeter to help out with repairs like this even without a hull warranty? Can anyone recommend a good fiberglass repair shop near the Sioux Falls, SD area?

    Thank you for your help.

Yes it can be repaired. I don’t understand why you think it’s a warranty thing. You can take it to a fiberglass boat repair shop or look around for a car body guy that does fiberglass. (think Corvette)

That looks to me like there was a bad spot in the fiberglass that bubbled and water got in there and peeled it off. I would start at a skeeter dealer and see if anything can be done on there end first. It does look like it is fixable.

Get and opinion from a dealer then see who there recommended warranty fiberglass shop is and get an opinion from them. After that and you will have some better insight of a possible cause then contact your insurance company about it. Can not tell the position on the boat buy maybe a trailer hitch was backed into it in a parking lot???

My not have been a water impact but could of been a road debris impact as well… Quite a few years back I have a chunk of 2×4 kick up off the highway and punch a perfect hole into the hull of an old glass boat.

That’s dose not look impact like. Looks like lamination in fiberglass layers that separated.

Here is a photo of the location – it is towards the back. I also found some more imperfections as well. I am now working with the Skeeter Boat Center to help diagnose the problem and course of action. I have no idea how all of this happened. The boat has less than 100 hrs on the motor.
