I’ve been on a pretty good bite the last few weeks and I was happy to see that it is still holding pretty strong. The past few trips have been pretty much a big fish bite, with an eater or two, and lots of shorts. A guy I work with has been wanting to get out with me and was available to go after work today so we made the trip. He has mainly been a fly fisherman so pulling planer boards was going to be something different. We hit the water around 3:00, and I headed to the area that has been good to me the last few trips. I got three boards set and was working on the fourth when we picked up a fish, followed quickly by a second. Getting a double before being fully set up felt like a good sign. First two fish were a 19″ and 18″ eye. Dave wanted a few fish to eat, so that was a good start. We continued pulling boards and zeroing in on the area that was holding the active fish. We only stayed out for about 3 hours, but ended up putting 5 keepers in the boat, along with 2 nice crappies, a half dozen or so short fish, a few white bass, a few sheephead, and lost two nice fish at the boat due to greenhorn over-enthusiasm. Dave kept 3 eyes and the two crappie to take home for a fish fry, and the rest went back. It was nice to finally hit on a bunch of active eater sized fish when I was looking for them. Pictures are the first two walleye, and the two crappie.
Hot baits were black and gold, firetiger, and blue tiger.
