Fished a half day today with my boss and his two nephews. The two boys like to fish but have no access to a boat and have never done any walleye fishing. The trip was a trade with my boss for doing some food plot work at my woods and planting about 60 trees for me. The first spot I checked wasn’t holding any fish other than a single lake Wisconsin silver salmon (sheephead). That spot wasn’t my first choice, but the spot I intended to fish had a dozen or more boats on it and I wanted to get the guys accustomed to fishing jigs without having to worry about getting messed up with other boats.
I could see Joel Ballweg was among the pack of boats so after a quick phone call to see if it was worth getting in the mix, we headed on over and joined the fray. We managed 3 slot fish (24, 22, and 22 inches), a 19 1/2, a 17, a dozen or so 12 to 14 inch fish, and too many silvers to count. The bite slowed way down around 11:00 and we called it a day at 12:30. The three slot fish and the 17 came on crawlers, either a jig or a lindy rig, and the 19 came on a white paddle tail. All fish were caught in 6 to 11 feet of water. It was a good day on the water. Decent weather, some slot fish, and the boys got to take a couple fish home to eat.
Pictures are of the three slot fish.
