Decided to blow off work today as I have to be out of town the next couple days. Hit Lake Wisconsin about 7:00 and was met with high winds and big white caps. The winds diminished as the day went on, thank god. Couldn’t have caught a fish with dynamite in the morning. Pulled lead core, long lined, jigged, dragged, pitched, and all of them produced nothing. I kept at it all day though, and about 4:00, they finally turned on.
I started pulling small shad raps on boards in 4 to 6 feet of water because it was one of the only things I had left to try, and I have had good luck in past springs in that area. Managed to boat 4 slot fish, with the biggest at 25 1/2 inches. Also had an 18 and 19 inch fish, and a good dozen or more fish in the 12 inch range. Also had a half dozen white bass, some of which were as large as I’ve ever seen on Lake Wisconsin.
Turned out to be a good day in the end. Some times, persistence pays off. No pictures though. Forgot the camera at home.
