Making a trip to the Madison area May 4-6 and rather than staying in town I thought why not bring the boat and stay at a resort within an hour drive or so and fish the evenings away for walleyes. With that said, I’d appreciate your thoughts and opinions on what lake to fish and what resort to stay at. Not looking for fishing spots, just some general direction, fish the river? near a dam? or fish a lake. Thanks in advance!

Have heard lots of good things about lake wisconsin, walleye, sauger and crappie; good luck.

Wow, that article got me ginned up for my “business” trip!! Thanks! Any advice on a resort on that end of the lake?

Well, made it here and made it out. Fished the head of the lake just down from the freeway bridge, caught a few small sauger and sheepies. Decided to run south for some crappies and hit the open lake with 4′ rollers. What a ride! Decided to get off the lake after that. Will be looking for some smoother water tonight.

She’s definitely been rough out there lately.

Coming out of the river and hitting those big rollers at the head of the lake really isn’t much fun at all. We did the same thing this past Saturday.

Tried it ageain tonight after some local guys (thanks guys) confirmed I was fishing the right area. The wind made it tough to keep my jig where I wanted but that’s no excuse. No walleye, one sheepie. It’s a nice lake! Most fishermen I talked to were after crappie. Maybe I should tried for those? Oh well, I’d rather fish walleye. Next meeting down here will be in the fall, will plan on trying again!
