I managed to get out for a few hours Saturday afternoon looking for walleyes. I figured the fish should still be in the upper part of the lake so I stayed around Tipperary point and up into the river.
Started out hot putting a 19.5″ sauger in the boat in the first 5 minutes, followed by a 21.5″ sauger shortly after. One on a catalpa chartreuse tail ring worm and the other on a firecracker chartreuse tail paddle tail. 2 fish on the first drift and I figured it would be a good day. Picked up a 20.5″ sauger on the next drift and then things slowed considerably. Picked up three walleye that were all right around 15″ and a small flathead catfish. All but one fish were on the catalpa ringie.
Wind made boat control a little tough, and the fish were all on one specific current seam that was nearly impossible to stay on with the wind direction. Beautiful day to be out though, and enough fish were cooperative to make it fun. Any day with 2 slot saugers is a good day in my book.
