Sauger bite is still hot

Fished today with Grey Beard and Dan Pogue for about 7 hours. Sauger bite was very good early, and then much slower but consistent after 9:00. We boxed 12 fish by 8:00 so everyone could have a fish fry, and then released everything after that. Had upwards of 30 keeper saugers by 1:30, along with a couple dozen short fish. Chartreuse orange core mini pulse-r and chartreuse pepper mini moxies were the hot plastics. Yellow hair jigs also put a lot of fish in the boat. Didn’t notice any difference in catch rate between minnow tipped plastics and plain, but using Ballweg Jelly or kickin walleye on the plastics made a noticeable difference. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures. Today I was fishing for my own enjoyment rather than trying to put clients on fish, so the camera never came out. Awesome day on the water. Hitting it again tomorrow with some friends. Hope the rising water temps don’t kill the bite.

He is good company. He got a thorough schooling today though. I was on my game.

I think that temp might start trending the other way here shortly.

When it comes to fishing, every dog has his day. Glad I wasn’t in your boat for that butt whipping.

I’m sure Greybeard will bounce back and be looking for payback down the road.

Much tougher bite today. The heavy fog this morning made it tough to navigate so we stayed on our first spot until the fog lifted around 10:30. Pulled 7 keeper sized fish from there on yellow hair and chartreuse green core mini moxies. Had a tough time finding bites mid day. Pulled lead core for the last two hours we were out and managed 3 keepers and a short fish on lead. Only thing they would hit on lead were #9 flicker shads for me. Got to spend the day with a good friend who has moved away so it would have been a good day even without fish.
