Looking for a laker jigging rod. One with some action building to the backbone to help protect the hook set at the hole. Bait caster or spinning style. Thanks guys for the help. Style of fishing jigging 1/2 to 1 oz. up to 100’ but mainly concentrate on 25 to 35 early for larger fish on the feed. Carbon or glass can’t get our hands on anything in CO so need input on what to look for and order

A lot more cost effective to find a one piece rod and cut it to the length you prefer. I’ve done 4, 2 spinning and 2 casting. They work great.

Elliot Rods has a purpose built line called the Siscowett.

    They are amazing.

If you are looking for something fast and cheap that gets the job done, the Jason Mitchell Mack rod works well. Just landed two lakers on it this past weekend on Superior. It’s a baitcasting set up and is quite stout but still plays the fish pretty well. 34″ or 36″, At Joe’s for $39.99.

I was going to get a TUCR but it was way too last minute so I went with this one instead.

I personally like a glass laker rod. They give you a little more cushion at the hole. This helps with bigger fish that give large headshakes. I really like having a reel seat on them too. With the amount of power a Laker had a good graphite seat is needed IMHO.

38″ -42″ rod seem to find my needs the best. I am not a fan of baitcasters though. I have had a ton of troubles with them freezing up.

I like ceramic guides for these because you can get them big enough to reduce freeze ups.

Thanks guys for all the input. I have a couple of TUCRs and Elliot Going to try the Elliot siscowet mostly due to there is a good representation on YouTube that shows the action of the rod in action. For people out of the areas that have these rods to look at it is tough to make choices. A lot of trial and hopefully not a lot of error. Thanks again for the help I have to give a shout out ro the guys at reeds sporting goods

I’ve got a 42 inch TUCR LTP and love it! It really loads up nice and can take the head shakes of a very large trout. If you want to see them in action on YouTube look up Clayton Schick Outdoors and look for some of his newer lake trout and big pike videos. Here are a couple of videos of his that I think pretty well represent the LTP.

Eric Haataja is a trout guide here on Lake Michigan. His Haat rod series for big trout are really nice. They’re the only rods I own that aren’t made by my usual guy. He just doesn’t build them for that application, so he pointed me to Eric. Quality rods built for this exact use.
