Lakemaster version 7, wtf!

I have a new to me boat that came equiped with a humminbird 1198. So today I bought the lakemaster version 7 chip and popped it in. What a piece of crap map. There are literally areas of the lake I fish that show up as land not water, circular bays that are now onlong. What the hell is going on? Even the basemap without a chip in the unit is more accurate. Is this chip not compatible with older humminbird? According to humminbirds website, it should be.

For reference, I’m looking at Whitefish lake in crow wing co. I’m going to try attaching some pics of the maps with and without the card installed so you guys can see what I’m talking about. This sucks as I was planning on using my link to troll contours, but not if the map is totally off.

Oh yeah, it’s worse. I zoomed out on the photos to give a better perspective.

Has the water level fluctuated recently?

Or is your water level offset set way off?

Try changing your water level offset anyway, might be a glitch on that specific lake.

Are all of your other lakes accurate?

No, they all look pretty crappy. Mille lacs looks really basic.

I’ll try the offset in a bit. I don’t think it will make a difference though. There are portions marked as land that are over 20ft deep, yet 20ft elsewhere on the map is water. I’m guessing it’s a compatibility thing. Really disappointed in Humminbird.

The 1197 is approaching 15 years old. I’m assuming the card isn’t playing well with the unit. May want to try and find a slightly older version. My v6 works just fine in my 999.

Hit and miss. Some lakes are great some are not. Lake we had a cabin on wasn’t even mapped at all.

Contours are good for big water but once you set down a path it’s really all ya need to fish off the GPS for most.

Good luck man, learn how to make it work in your favor.

    Really disappointed in Humminbird.

So a company has to be held back by units it produced 15 years ago and no longer support? Last I checked Microsoft and Apple don’t do this, neither does Lowrance or Garmin.

Like I said go with an older chip, not much has changed on the mapping side anyway.

My unit isn’t 15 years old. In 2013 when it was purchased, it was probably one of their higher end units. Yes I’m disappointed when humminbird lists the 1198 as compatible with version 7 on their website. If they hadn’t listed it, I would not have purchased it. And the lake in question is an HD mapped lake, btw.

You might not be actually viewing the Lakemaster card. The Minnesota V7 card works fine in my old 898 CSI. Try this: Put the Lakemaster card in the left card slot, then go to the chart tab, scroll down to the chart select tab and select the left slot.

Ok, I take back all the bad things I said about humminbird, lol. My depth offset was at -6 ft. All is right with the world now. Thanks for the help B-man!

    Sorry humminbird

You’re right. Lowrance does it every 4-5, not 15…

Some of the new chips, I think need your locator operating software updated to the latest version. Not sure on all of them, but my latest card, said to update my software to the latest version, and my units are only one and two years old.
