Heard three vehicles went through on Winnipeg including this smart guy dragging out the biggest camper he could find. How dumb are people?

Probably one of those guys who asks on a fishing forum “Is the ice safe?”. Well, safe for what?
Cameron whitePosts: 516December 10, 2019 at 1:36 am #1896603Access is closed. He screwed it up for everyone. There’s no fishing the red river this year, so the citiots have migrated to the lake. May dermal sarcoma strike them all!

High water and the ice formed while the water was high. The whole river from Lockport to the lake looks like a bomb went off. Very dangerous, unstable and hell to try and drill a hole. There’s only one area where you can fish.
Cameron whitePosts: 516SW EyesPosts: 211December 10, 2019 at 12:19 pm #1896739I just don’t understand. Why risk it?
The first people walk out, and I stay home. The first people take wheelers/sleds and I walk. The first people take small cars/trucks and I take my wheeler. I take my truck only when I have zero doubt in my kind. Been ice fishing for a lot of years and, knock on wood, haven’t touched water outside of pulling a fish though a hole.
What worries me most is neurologically challenged individuals like this that come driving by at about 30 mph on about a foot of ice and send cracks and water up through the hole. Seems to happen every year.
All that aside, I hope everyone made it out alive and well with the opportunity to learn from their mistake.
It seems to get worse every year. Eventually it’s going to come down to the DNR dictating lake access dates for certain areas, which is really going to urine the smart people off.
Full disclosure, I typed something other than “urine people off.” Interesting.
December 10, 2019 at 12:59 pm #1896755Unfortunately, as we all know. This is not an uncommon occurrence. I went to college with a guy who runs a recovery company now, and it amazes how many people whether hard or open water. Just don’t respect what water can do to you. People are very cavalier with their’s and other’s lives way too often. We see it a ton here in SE Wisconsin. People can’t wait to drive out a mile on Winnebago and drop a truck in. We have a few lakes around here that do not allow vehicles of any type on them during winter and man are they quiet.
Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559December 10, 2019 at 2:16 pm #1896776A sure case of anal optisitis. Those Cannucks can’t be any smarter than their neighbors to the south. All this for what? A fish?
CaptainMuskyPosts: 23389December 10, 2019 at 3:07 pm #1896795Werent they trying to lower Lake of the Woods like 3 or 4 feet? Would this be the cause?
Karry KylloPosts: 1281December 10, 2019 at 3:33 pm #1896812I’m just guessing, but I’d think it’s related to unprecedented fall flooding on the Red River. The Red was miles wide further south when ice up first started.
December 10, 2019 at 3:56 pm #1896822I don’t know about you guys, but that’s how I heard you drop a camper to the ice to bank it in…
December 10, 2019 at 3:57 pm #1896824As dumb as that is we likely will see something worse reported in this state this weekend.

Didn’t even take ’til this weekend, although the good news this incident wasn’t any worse.
Today on Mille Lacs lake…Wigwam Bay.
I don’t think it’s all that much surprise someone went through already.
The surprise is that most everyone knows that’s where Whitefish creek drains in and that would be the last place one would try to walk across now much less pull a house out upon.

I laughed so hard at this post I just about wet myself.
December 10, 2019 at 10:50 pm #1896911Never use the word “Citiots.” You will disrupt the hive!! Love the term because it actually has a meaning, but certain groups dont like the term. They will lash out and feel offended, tread lightly. Lol
Cameron whitePosts: 516December 10, 2019 at 11:05 pm #1896914That’s really crazy Cam…never seen it form like that. Did the flow break it and it started to pile up past the dam. Do you ever recall it freezing like that looks like ice out not early ice.
No it’s never been this high in the fall ever. They opened the floodway for the first time ever. Heavy rain in north and South Dakota, the river was at flood stage for almost a month. Never happened before.
The lotw drawdown flows up the winnipeg river through pine falls and hits the lake there.
The camper is still there. As is the truck that nose dived to the bottom. Those guys had to swim for it. Nobody died.
