Hello everyone, I’m gonna be going up to Lake Winnipeg in the first week of March, and I’m wondering what the best auger is for the lake?

Any auger will work out there. I personally would have a 10″ bit but 8″ will work. I will just say this. When I was there I wish I had another set of blades more than anything. It can be really dirty ice which can kill the blades on the auger. Just be aware of that.

I would also have an extension. I am not sure of the ice thickness up there right now, but I can’t see it being crazy thick like usual, because of the winter we have had.

It’s thick. Bring two extensions. A 10 will wear you out quick unless you don’t plan on punching a lot of holes. A second set of blades is a good idea, especially mora blades. We do have a local guy the guides use for mora sharpening.

Bring two augers. A third wouldn’t be a bad idea.
