Live target rattle baits, and rattle bait for that matter, flutter spoons but your best bet is a jig and minnow never fails salted or live. check out my video from last week on lake Winnipeg also have others that should give you some tips ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=–x4dgw1Ync

Do yourself a favor buy a bulk bag of magic preserved shiners from mills or whereever before u go.. work awesome

Don’t be afraid to use big spoons. Like 4″ salmon spoons. Targets, raps, slender spoons.

I probably should’ve mentioned that it is very helpful to have a heavy rod to go with those heavier lures. Your typical walleye rods aren’t the best for 6’s and 7’s.

All solid advice here but don’t overlook smaller baits. I’ve been there a dozen times and the biggest walleye I ever caught was on an 1/8 tingler spoon tipped with a minnow head. Place and time for everything I guess.

The lake has changed. 100 percent forage base crash in the north basin, zebra mussels all over the lake. There is a definite couple year classes missing.

I do a lot of custom painting for people heading up there. Mainly #7 rippin raps but have repainted a lot of jackalls and live targets. Jigging raps were new to the paint booth this year.

As for my box that I’m taking with this weekend, I have a good mix of bigger lipless cranks, plenty of spoons (rj lures and slender spoons), jigging raps, shiver minnows, some bucktail jigs and some blade baits. I have hard good things about buckshot spoons lately so I’m going to pack a few tonight when I get home.

Here’s the jiggin rap I worked up for this trip. Most of my stuff is on my facebook page (dhcustombaits). It’s definitely a fun hobby. Just wish I had more time to do it.

Here is a few I did well with last year Jackalls/shiver minnows! Also make sure you get a bait button, with pinched barbs they hold your bait on for a long time!

Access to the lake this year is different. East side there are 4 different accesses now. West side, no access from warner or chalet. Plan on launching from matlock or wpg beach even. Big fish are showing up, most of the biomass is coming down from the north basin due to the smelt crash. It’s not uncommon to get 50 eater mornings.

Are you guys using the original green bait button or the new orange “big game” bait buttons for your larger spoons and Live Target lures? Thanks
