I am planning a trip to lake Winnipeg at the end of Jan. Was wondering what baits I need to bring? Blade bait, Clackn Raps?
What has anyone who has been there had success with?

Our go to lures are the Live Target lipless cranks. Blue or Silver in color. Also have success with Live Forage and Clack n Rap cranks. Have also used buckshots and CJ Slender Spoons. If I had to choose one it would be the bluish colored shiner Live Target.

X2 on the blue shiner live target. Some people use the 1/2 oz size, I’ve had better luck with the 1/4. I caught my biggest fish on a 1/4 oz pink and white blade bait but the majority of the fish came on the 1/4 oz blue shiner live target. My best advice is don’t over think it. I bought all kinds of stuff and never took the live target off once last year.

Rattle or extra blade action is your best friend on most days, but there are a few when the fish are in a funk that they want nothing to do with anything that rattles. Don’t be afraid to fish larger baits than normal until the fish tell you otherwise. Some of our best days have come from 2 3/4″-3″ rattle baits like the lindy darter, rapala rattlin raps or the live targets.
