The significant other wants to get away for Valentines day weekend which most women do. Well how this gets good is she says we can go ice fishing on our getaway as long as she gets to see a Lighthouse which is one of her favorite things to do. So I was thinking Lake Winnebago because its not far from Lake Michigan. I’ve never been to Lake Winnebago so i’m looking for some different resorts that we could stay at.

There are no resorts on Winnebago. The are hotels nearish to the lake in Oshkosh and FDL but nothing on the water.

That said… ice fishing and coming this far, I would say consider going up into Door County. Hit the White Fish bite, and maybe walleye. The White Fish thing is more casual, ice should be getting really reliable by then, you’ll find some winter deals on resorts, and should be able to hit a few light houses along the way? It will be all different, and isn’t that hard. If looking to make life easy, there are a number of reasonable guide services running trips to heated shacks and such as well.
That JJ’s mentioned in another thread always seems to come well recommended.
January 21, 2016 at 1:40 pm #1594395Its odd how Minnesota has ice fishing centric ‘resorts’ and Wisconsin does not have any, really. The only one I can think of that is comparable is Dale Stroschein’s place.

Right… like our Ice Fishing show could fit in a closet compared to the photos I have seen on the one in MN. Being there last week, and seeing all the lakes close to the cities, it starts to maybe show why.

Maybe we will have to venture out to Door County. You would think that there would be some resorts right on the lake being the Lake is so big.

Door county in general has all sorts of little resorts, bed and breakfast places, and into Sturgeon Bay, some of the chain motels. There’s an active thread going now here that mentions some guides. (JJ’s and the IDO regular Paul Delaney are both well respected, personally, I would stay away from Dale S.) If considering that, ask a few of them. Check with the visitors convention. I’d guess they’ll have a bunch of info. Last year there was a number of guys going that way for an unofficial GTG. Start a new thread with the Door County thing as a header, and I bet you’ll get a bunch of help.
I know if I was taking my wife, just looking for a quiet area, and Door County is quiet this time of the year, except for fishing – I would keep the ideal of one of the guides shacks as an option – for her comfort. Me bring less stuff, and the ease of it all.
January 21, 2016 at 9:23 pm #1594492Brett Alexander does a god job on guiding with houses and all equipment also. Never met Stroshein but guys I’ve talked to either love him or hate him.
