I moved to mound this year and while I’m quite familiar with lake minnetonka I have never fished waconia and I would like to. I’m wondering if anyone can share some pointers for fishing walleyes and crappies? I’m interested primarily for ice fishing. Where can you drive out from? I’ve been to the access on the east side of the lake and I hear people talk about in towne marina, are there other places to access the lake on ice? Ive read that anywhere around the island is a pretty popular place to fish. Looking at navionics I see a lot of reefs around the lake, I imagine those are places to hit up. Is there a night bite on this lake? Anywhere that is traditionally not safe to travel on the lake? Again just looking for some basic feedback I don’t want your Hotspots or anything. Thanks for any advice in advance, here’s hoping for good ice soon

The terrace over by Wagner’s bay has an access, weedlines and rocks are always good, best to try to get away from the pack.

I don’t ice fish any more, but I recall open water off Red’s reef, which is almost directly west of the public access on the east side. Be careful.

Crappie guy, I’m originally from the Watertown area. Not to far from mound. If you are looking for some other small lakes that way let me know. I only fished waconia once last year and it was the day where there was about five inches of water and puddles everywhere. Don’t really have much on Waconia but if you’re searching for smaller lakes in the area that will be fish able sooner let me know. Hope we get some ice soon cause the itch is at an all time high right now. Good luck this year.

Crappie, I can’t help, but when time comes, I’m willing to poke some holes and help with the search.

Crappie can always be found from the hole in Wagner’s over to Pillsbury, and over to center reef, usually pretty crowded, if you can find a bump on a good weedline by yourself a little, fish will be by. Mostly a night bite, won’t catch many walleye during the day.
