Recently I got out for the first time chasing Lakers! I would love to know more about these crazy underwater cheetahs! Please comment any knowledge learned that may help in future trips! I would be very grateful toast

The best time to ice fish them is now through ice out. The best lake trout fishing is usually in the middle of nowhere where it’s tough to get to with nobody around.
Fish the entire water column. For nice sized fish and good numbers Canada is your best bet.

I like “off shore” structure in the Colorado resiviors, Green and Geneva here in WI. Could be as simple as a 10′ hump in 130′ or more. Seems like once you find a few humps like these that you mark fish around, they are pretty consistent all winter. That being said, on ice, they can be 10′ under the ice to hanging on the bottom. Geneva is notorious for lakers moving through 40 to 80 fow in the winter.

I also will often use two rods. 5-6″ white tube and a 3-4″ spoon or other color tube. I’ll dead stick one 20 to 30 feet off the bottom while working the other. Had many times that a brute came in on the dead stick.

I will 100% be trying to plan a “middle of nowhere” trip in the future as I love the idea of a 30lb fish with 1000hp! peace

I was wondering how they took to suspended dead sticks? I know they will eat a dead Cisco off the bottom but wasn’t sure about the halfway down bit!

Don’t be afraid to fish in 10fow. Pick between numbers or trophy size fish!

I think this next season I am going to try to get together with someone who is much more experienced in Laker fishing and try to do just that and get focused in on one or the other a little better! I would love to get a 20-30lb fish though not going to lie yay
