I use all 20-25 series spinning reels. Or 2500 series of they are shimano. I also go for a faster retrieve if you can get them. Saharas are what I have most of.

Make sure you get a carbon fiber drag on all of them and use an ultra low temp lube.

Also, if your looking for a rod, call TUCR and get a LTP. Easily the best out there.

I actually like to use a shimano baitcaster for lakers because the drag is better than a spinning reel and since you use a heavier rod, it actually tends to feel balanced. I do a lot of bass fishing so I have a lot laying around. I like the Chronarch Mg best because of the weight. Just make sure your weights are all pushed out so that you don’t get a rat’s nest when you let the line out.

Thorne Bros also makes a fantastic laker rod, they call it their ‘Professional Plus’. They offer a glass and a graphite model, which is nice.

I opted for the glass model which is about half the price of graphite and more durable, I guess if you are worried about missing those ‘subtle lake trout’ bites there’s a graphite option for you too :).

This rod also works great with an Arctic Warrior tipup for pike!
