Lake Superior sunrises

I spent the last week at the cabin near Two Harbors and spent each morning from about 5:30 until 8 casting the breakwater. The fishing, in a word, sucked. BUT, the sunrises proved to be something else. These two pictures were taken right around 6:20-6:25
AM on Thursday and Friday. It rained 7 of the 8 days we were up there, and the wind blew like crazy on most days. Friday was by far the tamest day I saw for the wind. I hit the breakwater a couple afternoons when the wind direction didn’t have whitecaps licking at my feet, but the water was still too warm for the fish to be near shore yet. While the fishing was a dud, the sunrises were something else if the clouds parted long enough to see the sun.

The red in the pictures lasted maybe three minutes and as the sun got higher on the horizon the color paled to pink and was totally gone by the time the whole sun could be seen. It looked like the sky was bleeding. Absolutely unreal.

That is fantastic! I love watching sunrises and sets, especially if I’m on a vacation of any sort. I’ll have to try this one as next summer I’m thinking of camping at Gooseberry.
    Thanks for sharing! toast

    Thanks guys.

With my lung disease I have to monitor air quality several times a day. It came up good at the cabin and while in town, so I suspect something miles away was in the air creating these outrageous sunrise colors. Smoke maybe but with all the rain up there it’s hard to imagine anything burning yet unless it’s in Canada.
