there was no lake superior thread or Duluth thread so…….

any of you guys that frequent the lake/duluth area get the Mn Conservation VOLUNTEER????

ever heard the names Grant Sorenson, a guide or a DNR guy by the name of Cory Goldsworthy???

it has a really interesting article about the superior lake trout. it went into detail about what they called 4 distinctive morphotypes of lake trout. if i understood the article correctly, there still all the same lake trout but based on the type of habitat they prefer there bodies are built different as well as some of there fins!

interested in what you guys know.

Grant used to be pro staff here and was featured on several IDO episodes. Some major falling out between him and James. Grant is a good guy.

I haven’t read the whole article, just little tidbits so far. Redfins are common in the apostles and up by Isle Royale. They can get very big. Siscowets are common all over the lake however are terrible table fare. There’s another variety that is somewhat similar in profile to the Redfin but has some really large pectoral fins. I always think they look like a toad. At least the colors remind me of that. I always catch these tight to the bottom and are normally pretty aggressive. Then there is the lean lake trout that I believe is a strain from Great Slave or Great Bear lake. Or maybe somewhere else in Canada. I think they were used in the 50s, 60s and 70s to restock the lake after the massive lake trout crash.

Always wondered what happened between them two! I figured some kind of argument went down and they split.

I’m fairly certain business was business and things just didn’t work out for the IDO relationship.

Perhaps I’m wrong but I recall a thread where James addressed the split, and wishing Grant nothing but the best as he’s done with all the past pro staffers here.

Unless gill knows more to the story doesn’t seem a reason to drum up drama here.

Cory is the Great Lakes Fisheries Biologist? I think, super interesting guys, has some great knowledge and insight if you get a chance to listen, he’s been on a couple podcasts, etc talking about Superior and the fishing and the whys and what’s..
