Anybody know how the perch fishing will be on poinsett this winter? I plan on heading out there end of december with some buddies. We’re willing to explore other lakes near by if need be. Thanks for the input, guys! Tight Lines.

Better hope there’s ice…pretty crazy year
I would expect decent results but maybe have to explore a little more than previous years I don’t think the numbers are quite where they have been after getting farmed out but there’s still plenty to go around

What do you mean by ‘farmed out’?

It’s been hit with alot of pressure pretty much all year didn’t see the success rate a person has in the past but the quality is still there just more of a challenge to find numbers..still a good fishery I just wouldn’t expect to fill a limit on a daily basis if that is what a person is after

Poinsett is going to be a zoo this winter, especially with the 15″ walleye minimum getting taken off Jan 1. Which it needs it terribly. Perch numbers are good…we should start making good ice around the 12th/13th looking at the extended forecast. A lot of area lakes have already been 100% froze over so the water temp is there….shouldn’t take long to make good ice )

Lots and lots of 12″ walleyes with an occasional 14. If you’re lucky you’ll stumble into a a nice school of perch but they are far and few between. The lake gets absolutely hammered every single weekend, so expect to have plenty of company, along with finicky fish to match. Stay away from the south side, the ice on that end tends to be unpredictable.

Fishing is hit or miss. If you can find some schools of perch you will do good, if not you may not mark much at all. I have found the exact opposite of ejdelvo in the fact that if you do find the perch they are very aggressive and will not have a problem eating big spoons jigged aggressively. It is a massive basin and you don’t have to fish by the crowd at all. South end ice is fine for the most part, but there is some sketchy ice on the SE side of the lake so I’d stay away from that. I drove on from the ramp off 81 and made it all the way up to the heave in the middle of the lake with no issues at all. There is snow on the lake but it is a non-issue if you have 4×4 IMO.

Poinsett sure is youtube famous right now. Good deal…keeps the herd off the lakes that are actually producing. whistling
