Northern Pike have begun to gather at the mouths of the feeder creeks along both the Minnesota and Wisconsin shorelines of Lake Pepin. Several reports of 38″ plus fish being landed this week. This bite will continue to get better with the warm week we have ahead of us. Most fisherman are using large suckers fished under a float or casting Red Eyes and Bucktails. Good luck to all of you who head out and please handle these fish gently. The warm water makes them quick to tire and they take a few extra minutes to revive.

Thanks for the update, and even more thanks for preaching about the fish handling. It’s like preaching to the choir on this site because most folks are conscious of talking care of our resources, but I’m always amazed when I’m out and see people handle fish in ways that you really doubt if they’ll survive.

I love seeing the message. It takes just a few seconds to read but hopefully the effects sink in and are far-reaching!

I’m surprised to hear that nice sized pike are hitting during the heat of summer. Out my way the nice sized pike stopped biting after the 1st week in July. You’re right on target about handling. A rubber coated landing net helps as well by not removing the fishes protective outer coating.
