What is required to fish Lake Pepin? I’m an Iowa resident and looking to make a trip up there this spring. Is a Minnesota and Wisconsin license required or will one or the other due?

    Tyler,

As long as you stay between the railroad tracks you only need either a Minnesota or Wisconsin license not both. Lake Pepin is between the railroad tracks.

Nope you just need a valid license for one of the states.

While you can fish with either a MN or WI license, you should get the license in the state where you are staying. MN and WI have different possession limits and transport rules.

In other words, if you are staying at a MN hotel, you will want to have a Mn license if you are keeping fish.

Thanks for the replies fellas. We will be targeting bass for the most part, but may keep a few walleye, white bass or crappie if they’re caught on accident. We will be going the first week of May. Generally speaking, will the bass fishing be good then? Smallmouth and largemouth, is one species more prevalent than the other?

The first week of May should be a good time for bass. Pool 4 extends quite a ways past the foot of Pepin and some of the best bassing will be found in the Wabasha area.
