I am thinking of running down to Pepin on Sunday to pull cranks on boards and long lines. Has anyone been out there yet doing this? Last year was really my first year of trolling the lake and didnt get out there until Mid June. is it too early to start trolling cranks, or am I going to be getting into fish that have moved back down river from the dam area?

    Any info would be helpful.

    Thanks!!

I’v heard the lead and long line is going with cranks! I know the pros will be down there starting, at least Saturday, practicing for the NWT Thursday/Friday. Keep an eye out for what those guys will be doing.

I was down there yesterday for a few hours pulling cranks. Lots of fish, but most were small with a few nice ones mixed in.

I went Tuesday and tried long lines, boards, lead, and 3 ways. Nothing on boards, numbers on 3ways (nothing bigger than 13″), Lead and long line were the ticket. I boated a 24, 25 and had two more in that weight class come unbuttoned at the boat

    Josh,

I went down to pepin today. Fished from 8-1. Caught a ton of small saugers and a few small walleyes long lining and using boards. Was fishing from 9-15 fow. When you were finding those nicer size fish, were you fishing deeper, shallower? It’s fun for a while playing musical chairs with the rods on those small fish, but would really like to get into some better quality fish. I did try lead but didn’t stick with it for very long.
