Has anybody been out to Pepin ice fishing lately? I have never fished it before and was thinking about heading to Maiden Rock. Any help would be much appreciated!

Wow, your asking for a lot of info, the lake is hit and miss. Fish the prime times and don’t expect a day bite, and I’d move around, don’t come out at 9 in the morning and expect a lot, these fish are constantly moving

How are current ice conditions. Side by side travel?

Trucks are driving on the ice, stay away from the pressure ridges, if you want to explore take a wheeler or side x side and drill holes measure the ice and check the current. There’s good ice where the permanent shacks are and little current

Update for Pepin… caught 32 crappie and kept 8. I released a 14″ crappie kept the 10″… Caught 5 striped bass and kept 2… no walleye/sauger. I was in 14′ of water and had to keep moving and changing presentations/lures all day. Best bite was around 3:30.

Good to hear you got some fish, kind of surprised after working that hard for them that you didn’t catch any perch

Relax man… everyone knows a bite lasts only a short time. Did you ream Outdoors News for their latest fishing report that is posted on a much bigger forum than this? http://www.outdoornews.com/Minnesota/Fishing-Reports/
Scroll down and read the latest update from Red Wing. They also give depths, area fished, and they even talk species.

Not to worry Round House. Ido was built around helping people catch fish. It’s not like you or anyone else is going to fish out Pepin anytime soon. The commercial fishermen haven’t.

Not that many years ago I received a phone call from a fella on Winni that read my fishing report. He told me that the lake was going to be fished out like Red Lake was within two years and that he had that spot all to himself for 15 years.

I asked him if we were talking about the same Winni and that he’s had it long enough and it was time for others to enjoy it.

There will always be those kind. I’m glad you worked at it and picked up a nice meal! I’ve been wanting to get down there for a very long time.
