Fished lake pepin yesterday and had alot more success than over the 4th. I was wondering if it would be a waste of time with all the no reports on here but went anyway battled the rain and wind and ended up with a fair to good day on the water. fished cranks from 8 to 4ish ended up catching over 30 saugers mostly around 14 inches 5 eyes biggest 18 inches and some northerns and perch. Was shocked no sheephead all day. So long story short maybe the internet has ruined the bite or maybe know one is talking about it.

    Great job.
I think the guys that are catching them just aren’t posting. And the guys that go out and do crappy post with a bad report asking what is going on with pepin. Anyway nice job glad you did well. Pics?

I will be down there Thursday, Sat, and Sunday this week taking a few people out. I will try to throw together a short report on how the bite is. With the recent rain any stream/river dump ins should hold some suspended eyes, it just a matter if you can figure out how to trick some of them.

I mean if people can be tricked into eating spam…the walleyes can be tricked into eating plastic too )

Was running jointed raps mostly in 10 to 15 feet of water.

I have heard of a dead to non existing bite. You had a phenomenal day if you really did catch that many fish. Some of the big shot locals and guides were getting skunked out there the last few weeks. We all know a fish story is just another fish story without pictures though mrgreen

I was out on Monday and trolled all day on Pepin. Normally, I would bring worms or leaches but wanted to dedicate the entire day to trolling. Used jointed, shads, you name it. Nothing. Not a bite.

I’m assuming this has been a banner year for river minnows, which tells me there’s lots of happy, LAZY walleyes. Usually pretty tough going for me in the MPLS pool but walleyes are to be had, in all less than 5′! They flurry then go. Middle of the day! Shocking the deuce out of me. Usually no more than 10′ from shore.

If I went to Pepin I’d get boards banging off the shoreline, but that’s just me.

I’ll add in, we all like moon phases, myself especially, but in looking at the solar angles on a calendar, the sun is at about the same angle as it is in beginning of April, just for reference. whistling

I was out last night on the north end off the lake just pulling cranks around and having a jolly good time. I saw one boat from 2 miles south of maiden rock all the way to Bay City.

For target species I caught one eater sauger. Otherwise a few other fish were biting, and as always the scenery is amazing…the tug is the drug I guess.

And thanks to for BK commenting on this post and jinxing it…now catfish eat my cranks instead of walleyes….

After basically striking out on Pepin I decided to fish P3 instead this weekend. So this might be better in a diff thread, but I promised a report, so here it is.

I trolled cranks along with my 3 guests (the 3 generation fishing sensations lol) fishing was off and on with the best bite being from 630am-8:30am and then 3-6pm. 10-15 FOW and #flickers4lyfe.

Our big fish went close to 28″ (and actually came on a Storm smash shad crank so everyone chant rah rah Rapala!!!) and we caught maybe 15-18 keepers eyes and 4 saugers during the all day sat and sun morning sessions. It was better than I thought it would be, but it wasn’t on fire, we grinded them out. One of the highlights was probably the parking lot, tailgate, deep fry party! Here are a few pics.
