I am planning a trip to LOW for sometime in early to mid February to search for some walleye. It will be my first trip ever on LOW.

I will check in at local bait shops to get pointers and such. However, what is the most popular tackle to bring?

    Fish on!

Well I would recommend Kevin Williams but he moved out of town to Seattle.

    Quick answer.

For Colors: Red, Pink, Glow, Gold, and Perch

All different types of spoons. buck shots, Stop signs, Jigging raps, plain red hook with minnow under a very well balanced float for when the might is tough.

    Good Luck,

Ha ha. Since he is an ex queen he would still find a way to jump off sides or miss an easy sack or heaven forbid miss a field goal against the Falcons from inside my Otter. jester

The lure that caught me the most walleye last year was Snyder’s Rocket Spoon, 1/8 oz gold with pink beads. I bought it on a whim at one of the tackle shops up there and for some reason it fit. Not saying I out fished everyone with it as we all had about the same luck, but for some reason that one worked best for me. I don’t know if that spoon is unique to the area, but I never saw one until I made a trip up to LOTW. Good luck!

I use Gold on LOW. When Gold doesn’t work I switch to Gold. I know others work but that is really all I ever use…

Also swing in the local bait shops and get a couple lures there. They can tell you what is working. That’s how we found all of our hottest lures over the years including the venerable Stop-Sign.

    Too Funny!

I met John Randle, former Vikings Tackle, at Arneson’s Resort years ago.
Just like Kevin Williams he finished his career in Seattle.
But he is back in Minnesota.

    Stained Water = Gold

This year the bite has been tough, a family member of mine runs Ballards and they are now on fish but a few weeks ago there was bad ice and not enough snow.

With this cold snap hopefully the bite keeps up, big fish are coming out of there!

Lindy Rattlin’Flyer spoon with glow on it on jigging line, plain hook and a shiner on the other. I’m tellin’ ya, don’t sleep on the plain hook. A glow gamagatsu works too.

More importantly than tackle is a Flasher! or don’t even go.
Gold frosty works best for me.

I have agree with the red glow rattling flyer. The dead stick has been better a couple years for us than jigging. One year walleyes were suspended in 14 feet over 32 feet of water. That was weird, I caught most fish that trip with a bobber suspended. Jigging sucked.
