I fished on LOW over the weekend and found a fair number of fish, just few that would cooperate the way I wanted to catch them. Fronts were contantly moving in and out, with much of our fishing being uncomfortable due to anything from rain and wind, to flat calm conditions and heat. There were quite a few fish out on the reefs, especially off of them, with leadcore and spinners not doing much for our group. We’d get fish, especially pulling crawler harnesses on bottom bouncers, but results were inconsistent and big fish were mixed in here or there rather than constants. Most of our fish, and the biggest fish for the group came jigging in 30FOW or so, just off of hard structural elements. Anchoring provded to be the best in terms of boat control, whether by spot-lock or by actual anchor on a rope. Numerous fish over 28″ were taken using that method by buddies that went out on the launch, but it’s a technique that requires some patience. Our biggest was a 25 and change, and it too came with jigging. Frozen shiners and leeches seemed to be the best, with shiners probably being the best overall. Hopefully the weather calms down and the one-after-the-other fronts stay away for a bit to create some stable weather and a good bite!
