Well, it was a much anticipated trip to LOW for the last weekend of the season last weekend. Full of excitement, but ended up more full on failure and issues. LOL
To kick off the charades my trailer lights didnt work. The cover on my otter lodge was coming off less than a mile from our house so we pulled over and threw it in the back of my truck. I forgot the arm for my GPS so I couldnt mount it to my snowmobile. Flying blind so I followed my buddy around LOL. It was funny, I pulled up the navionics app and ended up finding a nice inside turn in 29 feet and my son and I did really well, but my buddy only 25 feet away caught next to nothing.
No shortage of ice! I have an 18 inch extension on my auger and it needed almost every single inch of it to get through.
What appears to be snow on the surface is not snow, but the top ice deteriorating.
My son and I only fished Friday and Saturday and ended up 1 sauger shy of our two man limit but dont ask who caught most of them. No big fish caught. The big ones we had either got off at the bottom of the ice or broke the line.
Second day started where my son couldnt get the snowmobile to start. That old girl runs like a champ so I thought it was really strange. I didnt check the obvious things (kill switch) and opened the hood. No visible coolant. Added coolant and didnt notice any leaks, didnt have a spark plug wrench and remember I took it out to check the plugs in the other machine that was sitting 300 miles away and must have left it in that machine. DOH!
ANyways, buddy walks over and pulls up the kill switch and it starts on first pull. My son says it was my fault because I should use the key to turn it off not the kill switch!
Second day fishing was terrible for my son and I. My buddy ended up with 3 crappies all over 13 inches which was a nice surprise. He did much better that day than us. We played around throwing bait to the eagles which was awesome.
I brought my amped outdoors lithium charger but apparently it will not charge a dakota lithium battery because my LX7 was dead 3 hours into the second day.
All of the coolant I added disappeared from the sled. No obvious leaks so I need to get that figured out. On the way back it was overheating a little I THINK, but the light if it was on was very faint, but it was only for a very short stretch and there was plenty of lubrication on the ice. Now I have to figure out the leak or where its going… Good time, but frustrated with the issues.
