Dead stick: Tiny Rodwork custom dead stick medium light version with a plain red hook and glow red bead.

Jigging: this seems to keep changing depending on what they want. I have 6 different action Tiny Rodwork custom walleye rods in the 32″ range set up with different jigs for next week’s trip.

I always have a glow goldfish vmc tingler on one rod or maybe two depending if I am trying the smallest or the medium size that day. Usually jig with that or maybe a rattle spoon but mostly the vmc tingler. The deadstick is either a plain red hook or alternately a pink or white charmer. The charmers work better at pinning the skinhooked minnow down in the strike zone in my opinion as the plain hook option lets them have a little leash to move around on.

Tom’s tackle charmer pink and gold, tipped w frozen shiner, on a 32 to 36 inch rod I guess It depends if it’s a jt, or Thorne bros or other.

32 inch Thorne bros dead stick with whole frozen shiner 6 inches off bottom sat completely still on a bigger demon, or Plaine red hook.

Alot of my bigger fish have come off that frozen shiner sat still and over half of my fish 28 to 29.5 have come after dark.

I build a Deadstick similar to the JT one and man it’s fun to watch that tip load up. I use glow pink or gold for colors. I set one up with a plain hook and one with a flash spoon like the tingler with a gold back. Full minnows hooked through the tail was the answer last week. Usually if you watch the flasher and see a mark higher it is suspended larger fish. Last week everything was stuck to the bottom.

That looks very similar to JR tackles version. I have a few of those.

I have a rod bag the holds around a dozen rods/reels. I have everything from K-Mart specials to custom rods and reels. I have found on LOW, I use enough combinations, that eventually they all get used. Dead stick never seems to matter which rod/reel combo, but jigging rod/reel there is a huge difference between the cheap setups and the customs, customs win hands down for sensitivity.

Dead stick – I start with a plain white glow hook and frozen shiner, and stick with that to a fault. My son starts with an old unknown pink glow Crappie jig I have, and usually kills em with that setup, but if not biting he tries every lure in the box.

Jigging – I have a box of a few hundred different lures, colors, styles, sizes I have collected over 40 years, and every time out it seems something different works best. As stated, my son is very good at changing lures/colors/sizes until he finds something that works. Worst case scenario, happens a lot, he hits a lure that I only have 1 of, and he out fishes me every time.

I do use a Tom’s Tackle Pink Charmer like shown above a lot. But also use Rattlin’ Flyers, Jiggin Raps, Rippin Raps, and a bunch of slender spoons.

Rods: All JS Outfitters for my walleye rigs. Best bargain out there for a custom rod

    Lures:

Deadsticks – I generally start with a glow demon tipped with a fathead. If fish pass it up, I go to plain glow hooks or red hooks under a bobber with a fathead. If they are still finnicky the bobber gets ditched and I lay it over a bucket next to me.

Jigging – I always start with an orange/fire perch buckshot, red buckshot, or red ratlin’ flyer. It’s extremely rare that I have to dig much further. I’d say 85% of the fish I’ve ever marked on LOTW have hit one of my 2 offerings. If/when I have repeat lookers that don’t go, I will switch to a smaller slender spoon or tingler spoon.

I’ve had good luck on the pink charmer also. I wish they made them smaller.

One of my better days was when the fish were biting but light. Had to down size and a small pink Swedish pimple did the trick.

I’ll drop down to the Tom’s tackle stop signs or flyers. I’ve always really liked using his stuff. Especially up there

Just got back from there. First day bright pink spoon worked well but got nothing but sauger. Switched to a Northland Glo Shot spoon in gold and caught some nice walleye.

VMC Rattle and glow spoon, Gold 1/8 oz, replace silver treble with red because I may not be superstitious but I am just a little stitious.

Use Medium Light tickle sticks with 13 inline reel, good sensitivity for small walleye but heavy enough to land a pike if you get one. Bought a second tickle stick and inline for deadstick.

28 inch Medium (13) Wicked rod. Love that rod. Between my son and I we have 4 I think. For an off the shelf rod 13 did one heck of a job. Have caught everything from walleyes to perch to crappies on em. Tip is great and backbone is awesome. Check em out. When I’m at LOTW I have had a bunch of luck on a 1/4 gold jighead and minnow.

That’s the one I was using. Caught some nice fish including a 23″ and a 25″
