get off the lakes!!! 2 more rescues at Red in the last day also, Very Sad
December 28, 2023 at 1:27 pm #2244261Sad news. I remember when I use to go to the lake of the woods often in the 90’s. There was a Bombardier that went thru the ice with a group of senior citizens. I believe several, if not all of them died. The resort owner where I use to stay at was one of the 1st people who arrived at the scene. He said it was a really sad deal. If I remember correctly the owner of the other resort the people where staying at was the driver of the Bombardier. I believe he closed the resort soon after the accident and moved away from the area. I use to be rather scared riding in those things up there after that.

It’s crazy that the handfull of Bombardiers up there dont have some kind of inflatable style floatation device to deploy if they fall through since there main purpose is to haul people around.Coletrain27Posts: 4789December 28, 2023 at 2:54 pm #2244287Sad news. The Resort owner we use to use on LOTW had a Rack on the front and Back of his Bombardier that has stacked stryofoam sheets. he said it probably would not keep it afloat but he hoped it would delay it from sinking long enough to get people out. He said he hoped it never got tested.
Coletrain27Posts: 4789December 28, 2023 at 4:13 pm #2244309I had considered going up to Oak Island this week and getting picked up at Young’s Bay. Very sad deal.

Wow, that’s terrible. What a brutal way to go out. Absolutely terrible.

Know a guy who was just up there end of last week who was apparently goi g to go to red before a last minute change of plans. Made a joke when I saw him tues “heard you and your buddies decided to go for a swim!” He said wasnt us, and proceeded to explain how they went to lotw, where there were still broken up rough ice sheets as well as visible open water not too far out. Claimed there were machines with castles/Perms running around like crazy at that point. Sad story and definitely horrifying.
