My friend has a cabin/house down on Lake of the Ozarks. Keeps bugging me to bring the wife and boat down during the winter ( Jan, Feb, March) and stay as long as we like as he travels alot.
Anyone have any experience down there with the winter weather and fishing?
There are a couple sites online – Angler Spy is one that I see but curious if anyone here has ever been there during one of these months?
Not sure if it’s worth it to drag the boat all that way or if the fishing is going to be that good. He’s right around the corner from a public landing so…..

Today’s pic from him – gloating I think they call it………

I’d be down there all winter crappie fishing! Search Mike Baker videos, he has quite a few crappie videos for Lake of the Ozarks winter fishing.

I have family in Kansas and I go down as often as I can for winter crappie fishing in those reservoirs.

HA !! I am halfway between you and there, stop by and we will make sure your boat is ready to go and we can winterize it on your way back home !
And we can do some ice fishing while you are taking a break from the road !!

There was someone that posted about this just like a year ago. Do a search because if memory serves there was a lot of good information in there and he even provided a fishing report when he returned.

Believe you are referring to when beads (notmafiaguy) organized a trip down there.

Yep. I think they went in April.
Some guys (12 to 15 guys) here in SW WI used to go down in early April, but I don’t know if they still do. They did really well on crappies. waytogo They always limited out but I’m not sure what the regulation was on limits. I think 10 inch minimum for keeping. Bag/Possession ???

Been down there snagging with some buddies last year . March 15 is opener i believe . It has a cult like redneck following . Not for some elitist people but we had a blast ! Biggest was an 82 . Like trolling for 50 lb fish . Anymore info feel free to ask .

    Man that looks GREAT!!!

Watched video of two guys “shooting” crappies on the lake yesterday. Hold the jig, bend down the rod tip and it kinda shoots the jig under the docks – totally COOL!
