We fished Oahe this weekend and couldn’t seem to find the walleye. The only fish we marked was in 70-90 feet of water. There were large bait balls with some bigger arch’s around them. I know there are salmon in the area but was curious how someone would explore that depth without down riggers? Would have loved to find out what they were. We worked everything from 0-35 with no luck.

    Tight Line,
More than likely you had found the walleyes.. In the fall on Oahe.. the walleyes go deep.. really deep, starting about the end of Sept. We have alot of luck fishing them in 60-80 ft. off the big points. Tough to get the bait down. But we get it done with a 2,3,4 oz. bottom bouncers… or a heavy teardrop weight, and 3-way rig. Also we have caught fish on leadcore line, with deep diving cranks, but its alot of lead out there. You can present smaller cranks by fishing them on heavy teardrops with a long leader. When you get them.. bring them up slowly to avoid air expansion.

Hope you give it another try.
