Lake Minnewaska questions

    Guys,

My family (wife and two kids, ages 14 and 11) are renting a cabin on Lake Minnewaska the second week of August. I’ll be bringing my 16-foot tiller. I normally fish Pool 4 on the Mississippi so am definitely a rookie for that area of the state.

Just looking for any general advice/tips for that time of year for walleye and/or panfish (crappie etc.).

Also…if there are any “must see” type things my wife or kids should consider seeing nearby, I’m all ears….

    Thanks

Didn’t get any info last time I posted, so figured I’d ask again….

High School Point. 20+ feet. Vertical jig and shiner seems to always put something in the boat. ….You can troll cranks along the breaks on the Glenwood end in front of the reeds on the break-lines, but expect to catch lots of pike and smallies too. Ask Nancy at Koeps Bait. She’ll set you straight too. http://www.koepsbait.com/main/
No “must see’s” that I can think of, but I’ve been around there so long that everything is old to me. The hardware store in Starbuck is somewhat interesting. Lots of off the wall stuff in there that you usually would not see elsewhere. Historical museum place along the lake in Glenwood – by the beach. Kids might like that.
    Have fun!

Minnewaska is a great smallies lake. There is a big milfoil patch in front of Peters resort. Otherwise there are some good borders around what they call the Priest point area For Bass And eyes. Can’t remember what the real name is right now. The south half of the lake is like a big bowl. I have open basin trolled cranks and spinners there with some success.

Priest point is called Lawrence point on Navionics. The high school point is also good but gets hit hard.

Make a stop into Krueger Farms. They are just a few miles west of Starbuck on county road 18.
