Lake Mille Lacs or Mille Lacs Lake?

I said a poll on this, so which do you call it? I normally just say Mille Lacs, but otherwise I use lake Mille Lacs.

“Lake thousand lake” or “thousand lake lake” is what they translate to. Therefore, I stick with Mille Lacs pretty much exclusively.

Everyone knows it’s LAKE Mille Lacs, LAKE Vermilion, but Leech LAKE and Red LAKE!

For me, it’s just my backyard…

Look at that prime smallmouth water

It’s a little redundant in that Lac is Lake: Lac Qui Parle, Lac la Croix, Lac Courte Oreilles, Lac Seul, Mille Lacs, etc.

There is a sign as you approach the southwest portion of it along Hwy 169 that says “Mille Lacs Lake.” Not sure if that’s MnDot’s doing or the DNR’s doing but they’re both state agencies.

I asked what YOU people call it, not which is correct.

Mille Lacs. ‘Lac’ means ‘lake’, like tegg said.

Another option is to call it Mille Lac (“Millack”) like Al Lindner.

According to my 1997 Rand McNally its just Mille Lacs. I’ll go with that.

I call it a place I’m not in a hurry to get too.

Way too much controversy and rules to try and keep a fish or a decent limit, for a non resident who would travel 5 hours too get there.

It’s gotta be towards the bottom of my bucket list of places to fish.
