I have a very difficult time in feeling sorry for these people. Most of all, I don’t understand the 40+ years of procrastination that I personally have witnessed.
Since I was a little kid, growing up in Racine and fishing the shores of Lake MI I have watched the continual process of the shorelines eroding away. Naturally the rate of erosion varies with the water level of the lake. But every trip to Larsen St. in Lake park was an adventure to see how much of our friend Sam’s back yard was gone. That was 40+ years ago. Every time I drive down Sheridan Rd between Racine and Kenosha I wonder WHEN these homes will be in the lake….Again, that thoughjt process for me started over 40 years ago.
So NOW its a problem and people want an immediate response. Why the procrastination? They added some rock back in the 80’s, but that was still less than a bandaid. If you buy a property and you watch 10 to 30 feet a year disappear down the bank…don’t you have some responsibility in this? I’m sure they all want emergency tax dollars tossed at this. I’m not favorable to that. Just like building a house deep in a river valley and then crying when the spring floods come.
The DNR and Corp are meeting to propose a solution soon. Here is a link to a recent news story:
