I have this Friday off(yippee) my wife and kids are both gone, so i decided to pick a lake i have never fished before. I choose Lake Koronis by Paynesville,MN. I plan on targeting walleyes and smallies any tips or advise for a new to me lake would be appreciated.

Lake has been high all year, only recently started to get back to normal.
Buddy tells me the weeds are as thick as ever. For fishing, areas around the islands have been productive for me, especially for smallies & pike. Good luck.

Lake can be very intimidating, a ton of structure. I haven’t fished it yet this summer, but I would focus on scanning the area with my graph for a while along the weed lines looking for fish. Early or late in the day these edges can be very good with either jig/plastic combo or jig/minnow. I would focus around the island weed edges as these areas hold a lot of fish, both smallies and walleyes.

For awesome smallmouth action, troll/drift from the carp trap bridge, out into the main lake. For walleyes, I like to hit the East shore, along HWY 55. Good luck and report back how it went !

Was out there for about 3 hrs on Friday morning. Ended up with 2 walleyes two northers and a smallie and missed a couple as well(those were the big ones)haha. The two walleyes i picked up were caught by the islands, and the other three fish were caught on the west bank all in 9-12 fow. i will definitely being going back to give it another try.
