Lake Byllesby Parking ticket Warning

For the fourth we went to Byllesby for tubing, etc. When I came up to launch, the sheriff informed me that the lot was full and there wasn’t any places left to park the trailer. I told him we had a farmer friend down the road, if we contacted him, could we park on the edge of his field. He informed us we could do that without an issue. We contacted our farmer friend and received permission.
At about 6pm we went to get our vehicle, and noticed a parking ticket on it. (Although it was a warning) It upset me, as I explained what we were doing, but again it was just a warning. I almost think I should call and explain to the Sheriff what happened.

The warning goes on your record too.

I am curious what exactly the ticket was for. How could he give you a ticket for parking on private property if not requested by the property owner?

I assume that could be considered trespassing by the deputy.

I would venture to guess that the farmer friend has had past issues with people parking on his property? Maybe the deputy knew this and assumed you didn’t have permission.

Not calling you wrong Brian but I think that is incorrect as per what a friend of mine told me just now when I asked him. He is a Ramsey Cty Deputy. He said sometimes they do show up on record if there is an altercation (typically verbal…) with an officer but otherwise no…RR

I heard it straight from the horses mouth this spring. It was a game warden so I’m not sure if SD’s and Co’s are different. We were trout fishing and the guy just down stream from us went to relieve himself and left his rig in the water. The CO showed up and wrote him up for a unattended line warning (paper). The CO told the guy this was his only warning as other officers would see the warning and write up any infractions after the warning. Not sure if it was talk but I would tend to believe him after he said it to a group of guys.

It wouldn’t show up on your driving record it would just be in the DNR’S in-house record data base. Not sure if they share with the State Patrol or not but it is not something I would see if I ran you. DT

I was thinking about you when I responded. The CO’s must log theirs, or the CO was putting the fear of god into the guy. whistling

Are there written warnings anymore? And what would the purpose for a written warning be unless they logged it? I understand the parking situation as the driver is not present, but what about other violations that have written warnings. If they take the time to write it up why wouldn’t they log it?

I understand about verbal warnings and them not being logged and thank god. I was pulled over for doing 44 leaving the Twins game last week on the Hennepin Ave bridge (30MPH). Was just told to “have a safe rest of the night” and cut lose after a quick ID check. I’m sure nothing is in any system over that.

That verbal warning will be known to every other Deputy if they search their records during the stop. Basically written and verbal warnings are only recorded in that departments records. Say you get stopped for speed by me. I would close out that call for service as a warning issued. Since we share our record database with our local Sheriff’s Office they would see the warning but no one else in the state would. Some of the agency’s in the cities may share records but it won’t be known by every agency in the state that you got a warning. Written warning are still used. Its just a paper trail. Hope that helps.

No problem RR, I was going by the record of a fella that received a DNR warning (written). I KNOW it was on his record at one point…but in checking the MN records today it’s as clean as a whistle.

Kinda moot in calling I guess.

I wonder if DNR warnings do get logged differently? Last summer I went fishing with my grandpa for a quick couple hours and forgot to grab my wallet which contained my fishing license. We got stopped out on the water that trip, and the CO said that it was not a big deal I didn’t have my license, but it would be in the system and if I get stopped again without it there’s a pretty good chance I’d get a ticket for not having it on me.
