Ladder Stands VS Portable Stands

The older I get the more comfortable I feel in a ladder stand then a portable stand and over the last few years we have moved to mostly ladder stands on the 2 farms we hunt. The problem we are finding with the ladder stands is that some of them can be nosier than a portable stand especially when the weather gets colder they will pop and creek more than a portable will. Anyone else have this issue? What if anything can a guy do to make them quieter, are there any brands out there that are better than others?

I wrap camo duct tape on all the joints on the ladder. It makes a big difference as far as noise.

I have heard if you spray them with truck bed liner paint that quiets them down considerably. I am going to try that in the spring.

Grease all your joints in the ladder section that slide together is a start.
