Unless things get cold soon, there should be good deals on the surplus ice tackle, gear, shelters, and even wheelhouses come spring.

I’m ‘on board’ for a warm winter

phishingruven01Inactivesoutheast lower michiganPosts: 300January 4, 2019 at 7:42 am #1823021Seems like a typical El Nino year, warmer and dryer.
The last moderate El Nino was in 2009-2010. I remember it being a great year for walking out in the south metro until late January, when the ice was thick enough to bring out the drunks tempting fate in their cars driving like mad and whippin donuts on 12″ of questionable ice. Then I stayed home again not wanting to get kilt.
Sounds like it might be a good year to walk out again.
January 4, 2019 at 8:00 am #1823026I live in the far se corner, Racine county and had been planning on getting a new auger and getting out on the ice again after a few years away from it….. this surely isn’t an inspirational word yet for it. Hard seeing the shoes like IDO and not wanting to do it again.
January 4, 2019 at 12:59 pm #1823109That’s nuts. I live in Fargo, ND and guys have been taking trucks out for weeks.

Yea it is pretty pathetic! I would see about taking my boat out but I would have to uncover it and then I would have to re-winterize it and I dont want to screw with that. I hate the in between weather where you cant do winter stuff or warm weather stuff. I need a heated place to store my boat so I dont have to worry about winterizing it.
January 4, 2019 at 5:49 pm #1823167Another .50″ of rain Sunday into Monday for areas along the Mississippi River from the cities southward. That will bring our total rainfall from December 15 through now to approximately 2.75″ in the Lake City area.
SylvanboatPosts: 980January 4, 2019 at 5:50 pm #1823168I’m near Chicago and no ice. At times like this I start drinking heavily.
January 4, 2019 at 8:48 pm #1823210As much as I do like the ice for getting out and hope to be able to drive out around the metro at some point, I have to admit that it’s nice to not have the hell of the winter we had last year. Just being able to monkey around in the garage in these temps is so nice. I’ll take it for now.
Nota WhopperPosts: 14January 5, 2019 at 5:09 am #1823243I am far West Central Ohio. I made it out for a couple of hours in mid December on 2.5″-3″ of nice clear ice, then a non-stop warm spell moved in. Looks like my new Eskimo Evo 1it shanty will not get to smell like fish this season. I have been thinking about a trip to northern lower peninsula of Michigan, lake Simcoe in Ontario or maybe even devil’s lake north Dakota to scratch my ice fishing itch. Only a few nights have lots below freezing in the next 10 days forecast and highs in the mid 40’s won’t make any ice. Anyone that has even walkable ice should consider themselves lucky and those driving on ice are truly blessed! I need to hit the lottery and retire to Minnesota, Wisconsin or north Dakota. At this point in the season, I highly doubt if lake Erie will have fishable ice this year. We need a few slow moving cold fronts to come through and soon!
This in-between season is aweful, too cold for boating or kayaking, but too warm for hard water walking.

If state administration just voted in has there way your gonna need more than the lottery win to live in Wisconsin. That being said I must live above the Mendoza line. Been ice fishing since Thanksgiving.
dbv2Posts: 36January 5, 2019 at 7:07 am #1823252Very true, but I would rather have a nice long ice fishing season, than a good deal on equipment.
In NE Ohio, it looks unlikely it will be a long season, if any season at all though. Sad, as ice fishing is my favorite season.
