Lack of Good Hoagie Bread

I’m a huge fan of sandwiches, in particular philly cheese steak sandwiches. The problem ive run into over the years is it seems impossible to find a good bakery in MN that can make a nice soft hoagie role. I’m hoping the good folks of IDO can guide me to a place that offers quality hoagie bread. I used to just go into subway and buy their bread but they no longer allow that. Not that their bread is anything special but at least it resembles a soft hoagie type bun. Anyone know of a good bakery in the twin cities that can hook it up?

Erb’s and Gerb’s day old’s for a $1 (at least that’s what they used to do). There’s a fancy French bakery in Chaska, Red Bench Bakery, that would have what you’re looking for, but they are not cheap.

Closer to you crappie is a BP station off of valley view road and Mitchell road in Eden prairie. They have a small bakery in the gas station with really soft hoagie buns. Plus they have really good pastries and muffins too.

I also slang sub’s for Erbs and Gerbs in college (in St. Peter), basically lived off that and venison. Did you work at the DT one in St Cloud? That was a common 2 am stop after leaving the Carpet when I would visit lol.

Cub foods has excellent pretzel rolls, perfect for a philly cheesesteak. Wrap it in a little tin foil before the oven and its perfect every time

Crappie….learn to make your own bread and you’ll soon lose interest in most bakery breads or those sold at sub shops. Not hard to learn and better for you.

yes i did and i would bring my laptop in and plug it into the stores sound system and crank it to 11. People would be dancing in line telling me we had a better scene in here than in the bar. Good times.

I have thought of that and plan on looking into it. Thanks for the suggestion Tom
