Headed to daniel boone national forest around the whitley city area and see there are some fishing opportunities around. Having no idea what’s out there besides some trout on the website, and wasn’t thinking of packing any fishing equipment is it worth bringing a travel pole and a few lures? Initial plan was hiking and taking in the place, but, I’ve never said no to catching a fish either.

I would rather pack it and not use it over wanting it and not having it

x2 If you have the room you might as well try to slide in some fishing.
Does KY jelly make the fish faster or fight better?

    Not sure.

On an unrelated note I think throwing bags out there is cornholeing

Not exactly in the neighborhood, but I’d try to figure out a way to hit Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee. If you’ve never been to Reelfoot it’s quite an experience. The area is like stepping back in time. It was formed when a huge underground cavern collapsed. It took so much water to fill the depression that the Mississippi supposedly ran backwards for 3 days. It’s renowned for tons of slab panfish. It used to be covered in stump fields and they rented little stump jumper boats with mid engine Brigs engine and a skid plate under the prop. The stumps and stump jumpers are a thing in fishing history now. The stump field have rotted away and been cleared out. Now, a lot of people take their own boats out on it. A cooler full of slabs in a day is pretty common. If you’re headed to a family reunion you could hit Reelfoot on the way there and show up with the fixins for a fish fry. It’s not very far South of where you’re going. But, it is a ways West of there.

The FG and I did a lil googling last night on stuff to do on the car ride to the cabin, already planning on a second trip at some point. Tons of stuff in KY. Together our airfare and a vrbo in the mtns less than $500. Buffalo trace distillery isn’t far from our path, tons of sawmills in the area I’ve got some calls in to my wood distributors to see if I can sneak into, would love to talk oaks to the folks out there for a bit, and in Nicholasville there’s a county fair where after a few drinks of the local spirits might find myself in a greased pig competition.

Tbh fishing fell off the radar at this point. Small stocked trout just don’t appeal to me as some natural stone arches or several waterfalls. Although big crappies still haunt me and may be part of the game plan next time out. Thanks for the tip j.

We didn’t hit all these spots but the general area. Daniel boone in KY and big south fork in TN got alot of attention.

We do lots of hiking, thanks for the heads up. Just adds on to a family crappie trip down that way.

If you’ve never been to the smoky mountains I would definitely have that on my list. Pigeon forge, gatlinburg, etc., notably.

Sorry about the dumb joke earlier in this thread. Wow, that was bad.

I am glad you had a great trip. Kentucky is a beautiful area. Were you still getting the poor air quality from the Canadian wild fires?

Some local folks at the Henry Clay house in Lexington asked us about that, apparently they had some haze down their way not long ago.

Rock wall cutouts are nuts, caves, arches, dang near tropical in some areas. Tour thru a flooded limestone cave w stocked 5-15# rainbow trout was pretty cool too swimming alongside the boat. No fishing allowed doah

Ron I’ll give ya specific spots if we get together, most are kid friendly, others were dang dangerous getting to.

We hiked Smoky Mtns National park for Memorial Day week last year, and it was great. Most hikes were in/out but there are some awesome waterfalls down that way. We put on just under 50 miles on the trails and stayed in a cabin in the hills outside Gatlinburg.
Will definitely head back down there again in the future, lots of area of the park to the west we didn’t get to.
