Kwik trip to receive federal funding

Kwiktrip normally seems busy and packed. (At least the 2 I visit around me are) I am wondering where they will have room to let someone sit for 30 min charging? I get the government having to flip the bill to get this rolling. Google says $60K to $350K per plug-in. That is a lot of upfront money that Kwiktrip will make very little on. A better question is how will Kwiktrip make money on this? Is the power subsidized and they are allowed to make a markup? How is this benefiting them having people more or less loitering?

They will upcharge the electric and make a bit there. But the main money they make will be by getting butts in there stores. You will plug in then go in and buy soda, water, chicken, snacks…..the stuff they make the big money on. Dime here, dime there and soon you have dollars. Once all the competition is driven out the dimes will become quarters.

I guess I am not sure how the subsidized power or up front money thing works with kwik trip, but my theory would be that they think more people stopping to juice their cars means more people in the store which means more people buying stuff. Just a guess

Looks like Dutchboy beat me to it above

    Free WiFi ?

Most gas stations make little on gas. Like Dutch said, money is in the Chicken Strips!

There is very little markup on the gas. A gas car takes 5 minutes to fill vs 30 for electric. = at least x3 time the butts through the store. I won’t stop if the station “looks” busy. Having multiple cars waiting for chargers will make it look busier. I hope it works well for them. Seems to me it will reduce the amount of traffic going into the stores and overall profits. On the other hand, it is hard to force EV on people when they can’t charge them.

They need to get the battery size down to something that can be changed quickly.
A modular battery would eliminate the time for charging and would be similar to getting gas. Faster actually.

I drive by the local quik trip alot now just because of parking. The whole front row and half the pumps seem to have idiots sitting there eating dinner. Nice to see elderly people having to walk 200 feet across the parking lot for a loaf of bread so a fat ass 30 year old can sit in the closet spot stuffing their face for 20 minutes. Need like 5 minutes or less signs. Putting a bunch of spots for cars to sit a half hour sure aint gonna help.

News flash.. all this Green Energy money being spent is lining pockets of those who are pushing it and will amount to a big nothing burger for 95% of the population. No way shape or form our grid can handle even replacing 10% of the ICE rigs on the roads and sites now by 2040. The powers that be that are pushing this crap, just refuse to listen to the experts and facts… the money rolling in and out to their supporters is blinding them.

In Wisconsin they make a nice profit on gas. There is a minimum markup law stating they must charge at least 9.18% above their fuel cost.

Far be it for me to let the facts get in the way of some righteous indignation, but I’m not particularly concerned with $7.5B federal dollars being spread across the states for EV charging stations. Nor am I concerned with the $78M over 5 years going to Wisconsin, and WisDot giving $5.76M to Kwik Trip.

While I am a free market fan, this is about 178,651,572nd on the list of things the Federal govt shouldn’t be funding, and frankly I don’t have the capacity to care too much about things that low on the list, nor on that side of the river. I mean the Biden family is probably siphoning off that much from Ukraine funding alone, let alone how much the Pentagon has “go missing” every year.

    This is peanuts.

People don’t understand how much the $17 billion is that Walz stole in comparison to this.

Walz could have made this investment 1000 times and still had MN taxpayers’ money left.

I’m with Werm in that at least this could maybe benefit someone. Not my favorite use of money but far more to start complaining about

I for one welcome the kwik trip monopoly. My least favorite Kwik trip is league above any holiday, or speedway or anything Else in terms of cleanliness and service

What will a kilowatt cost from KT?
    50 cents maybe 75?

I thought someone would comment on this with how much a kw costs the average user.
Where I live a kw costs less than 14 cents a kw. I would guess KT will charge 50 to 75 cents a kw to start when they get their charging system set up.

As far as profits on gasoline the margins on gas since covid have been at least double what they were before covid. Just like many other items. Merchants and companies marked items up just because they could get away with it. JMO

The google machine says the average in most states is 43 cents FWIW.
